McDowell EMS has top-of-the-line ambulances, special operations vehicles and emergency response assets that are expertly maintained. Our ambulances are custom-designed from the cab to the patient module and are all based on employee feedback. A truck committee composed of EMS staff have full freedom to create the best vehicles for our operation.
In 2022, McDowell Emergency Services moved into its new headquarters. The new state-of-the-art facility was built to improve workflow and efficiency. The Emergency Services headquarters includes an on-site gym, showers, industrial kitchen, and more. All McDowell County EMS Stations and facilities are equipped with updated appliances, furnishings and amenities.
Since 2010 McDowell EMS has led the way in rural pre-hospital medicine & innovative programs, like Community Paramedicine. These paramedics work 12 hour shifts with flexible scheduling options. They operate in an expanded role, assisting with public health and primary healthcare and preventive services to underserved populations in the community. This year, McDowell EMS was one of the first agencies in the region to bring a Social Worker full time in the EMS Division.
