Emergency Management

McDowell County Emergency Management plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents by spearheading preparedness, response, and recovery efforts for emergencies and disasters. Our emergency management efforts include the following services.

  • developing and refining comprehensive emergency plans tailored to the county's specific risks
  • educating the public on preparedness measures
  • coordinating seamless collaboration among various response agencies

During emergencies, McDowell Emergency Management orchestrates the deployment of resources and personnel to effectively mitigate the impact of the crisis. Post-disaster, the department conducts thorough damage assessments to guide recovery efforts and restore normalcy to affected areas.

Through vigilant monitoring of emerging threats and continual adaptation of protocols, McDowell Emergency Management remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the community and enhancing its resilience to adversity.

Emergency Operations Center Serving the Residents of McDowell County

McDowell County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) hosts coordinated response during disasters or emergency declarations. Staff and leadership from McDowell County departments serve together in key roles within the EOC to coordinate operations throughout the incident to benefit McDowell County as a whole.

McDowell E-Plan

McDowell County uses E-Plan as the filing system for Tier II reports. Submission through E-Plan satisfies the requirements to file with local first responders, emergency management, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and the State.

LEPC Local Emergency Planning Committee

The McDowell County Local Emergency Planning Committee is a federally mandated committee with membership from business and industry, emergency response groups, hospitals, environmental interest groups, and schools.

McDowell County EM in partnership with the McDowell Fire Commission has a network of Davis Weather Stations deployed across McDowell to provide real-time weather information to emergency personnel.
