Community Care Paramedics

McDowell County Emergency Services— Bringing Safety & Wellbeing to the Community
In 2013, McDowell EMS launched our Community Paramedic Program, becoming the first rural agency in North Carolina to adopt this innovative model. Our program tackles issues such as frequent 911 use, mental health crises, preventing falls, and guiding individuals through social health resources. We're here to support those who often slip through the cracks, offering vital services where they're needed most. Community Paramedicine is a modern approach that enhances access to essential care through trained EMS providers taking on broader roles.

Lock Box Program
This program will supply you with a key lock box installed free of charge outside your home. This gives paramedics a fast way to enter your locked home and will allow your care to begin as quickly as possible without any damage to a door or window in the event of an emergency. This free program can also provide you with a home safety assessment to highlight any hazards in your home. This program has been made possible by The McDowell Endowment Grant from the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Rotary Club of Marion, and Spencer’s Ace Hardware.
